Grrrrrrrr

My car was broken into last night :(
Some time between midnight and 6.30. Broke passenger side window and took my sat nav. My own stupid fault really as i usually take it out but last night I forgot to cos I was tired. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So, thats £110 for a new window plus the price of the sat nav which is apparently not covered by my insurance. I hope whoever nicked it has a random accident caused by the sat nav unexpectantly exploding.
Buying insurance at point of sale? — why you may want to think again
You are free to shop around, which often works out cheaper. Peter Gerrard of moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison service, advises consumers to look at the small print to see exactly what the policy covers. "I would strongly recommend searching for a standalone policy rather than settling for one bought alongside the product," he says.

"The in-store policy will almost always be more expensive as it will include a commission for the shop." There are a number of firms, including insurance companies and the manufacturers themselves, that sell extended warranties on everyday household goods.
Hidden your satnav unit? — maybe not
Many versions of the Tom Tom now have Bluetooth to allow communication with a mobile phone. If you leave your Tom Tom switched on with the Bluetooth activated your device can be scanned for by a thief using a mobile phone. Regardless of whether you have hidden it in the glove box or under your seat it will still be found. I must add this also applies to certain laptops as the wireless Bluetooth technology is set as default to wake the laptop up when it receives a Bluetooth signal. This can be disabled if you know where to look within windows.
